Feast of St. Vincent de Paul - Evening Prayer:  26th September

Introduction

We welcome you to join us in prayer to commemorate St Vincent De Paul,
to celebrate his works and achievements and join with the many
generations who followed faithfully his understanding of Jesus Christ’s
command to bring good news to the poor.

Jesus said, “The spirit of the Lord is upon me”.
And so we come that we may share in that spirit.

Jesus said:” He has anointed me to bring good news to the poor”
And so we come that we may hear that good news.

Jesus said: He sent me to let the oppressed go free.
And so we come that we might be free.

Psalm 140
Response: Lord, let my prayer rise before you like incense.

I have called to you, Lord; hasten to help me
Hear my voice when I cry to you
Let my prayer arise before you like incense
The raising of my hands like an evening oblation.  (R)

Set, O’Lord, a guard over my mouth;
Keep watch, O’Lord, at the door of my lips!
Do not turn my heart to things that are wrong,
To evil deeds with men who are sinners.  (R)

Never allow me to share in their feasting.
If a good man strikes or reproves me it is kindness;
But let the oil of the wicked not anoint my head.
Let my prayer be ever against their malice.  (R)

Their princes were thrown down by the side of the rock:
Then they understood that my words were kind.
As a millstone is shattered to pieces on the ground,
So their bones were strewn at the mouth of the grave.  (R)

To you, Lord God, my eyes are turned;
In you I take refuge; spare my soul!
From the trap they have laid for me keep me safe:
Keep me from the snares of those who do evil.  (R)

Scripture Reflection:  Mathew 25: (34-40)

“Then the king will say to those on his right hand “Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

For I was hungry and you gave me food,
I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink,

I was a stranger and you welcomed me,

I was naked and you gave me clothing

I was sick and you took care of me,
I was in prison and you visited me

Then the righteous will answer him:

“Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry, and gave you food,
or thirsty and gave you something to drink .

And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you

or naked and gave you clothing.

And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?

And the king will answer them:

“Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are
members of my family you did it to me.”

Prayer of Intercessions:

Lord we remember those who feel estranged from our community,
Be with them Lord this evening

 Lord, we remember those who are in prison, hospitals and nursing home
Be with them Lord this evening

Lord, we remember those who hunger and thirst for healing from their addictions
Be with them Lord this evening

Lord we remember those who have no sense of belonging
Be with them Lord this evening

Lord, we remember those who feel naked and abused by their despair.
Be with them Lord this evening

Closing Reflection:

Look at your hands;
see the touch and the tenderness,

God’s own for the world.

Look at your feet; see the path and the direction.
God’s own for the world.

Look at your heart; see the fire and the love.
God’s own for the world.

Look at the cross; see God’s Son and our Saviour
God’s own for the world.

This is God’s world,
And we will serve God in it.

May God Our Father,
Bless and Protect you from all that would harm you.
May he grace you with understanding of his love; and
May your hearts be filled with charity to love and serve in the
charism of St. Vincent de Paul
