Priest, founder of the Vincentian Fathers
Patron of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul
Feast Day September 27 Canonized June 16, 1737
Vincent de Paul had a gift for integrating
service with a
profound prayer life. He found and served God in the poor, the sick and
abandoned people in the city and in the countryside. Vincent knew how to draw
other people into his projects and made them his co-workers.

| Blessed
Frederic Ozanam 1813-1853
|
Principle Founder of the Society of St.
Vincent de Paul
Feast Day 8th September Beatified 22nd August, 1997
As
a student at the state-run Sorbonne, this brilliant, sensitive young man of
modest middle class background was confronted daily by the misery of the working
poor of Paris, immortalized in Puccini's La Boheme and Les Miserables.
Frederic challenged his friends at the university: "If we are too young to
intervene in the social struggle, are we then to remain passive in the middle of
a world which is suffering and groaning? No, a preparatory path is open to us.
Before doing public good, we can try to do good to a few. Before regenerating
France, we can give relief to a few of her poor.
