New Initiatives at St. Peter’s
As a new academic year
begins with the holidays behind us, there is a feeling of new beginnings as
we enter the Autumn Season. This year during our Vincentian Provincial
Assembly each local community was encouraged to develop a ministry to youth.
Fr. Michael McCullagh, CM. begun this initiative some months ago by inviting
people in the age group of “twenty something” to “thirty something” to
meet, socialise, and share their experience of life and faith. Out of this
gathering a core group has grown who are eager to be actively involved in
peer ministry and liturgy.
The St.
Peter’s, Phibsborough initiative in youth ministry begins this Sunday, 7th
September at the 6.30pm Mass. Involvement in the “St. Peter’s Group”
experience is already leading young people to service in the local church
and also on foreign mission. There will be a formal launch of the Vincentian
Lay Missionary (VLM) Project during the Mass for the Celebration of the
Feast of St. Vincent de Paul on September 27th.
The second
initiative is at the request of Cardinal Connell. Our Archbishop has
requested that St. Peter’s Parish host a Mass for the African Community in
Dublin each Sunday. In the past many emigrant groups found acceptance and
support through their local church. It is now an opportunity for the
Archdiocese and Phibsborough Parish in particular to create an
environment of acceptance and support through this initiate for The African
Community in Dublin. This Mass will be celebrated each Sunday at 2pm. The
African Choir who formerly sang at the Sunday evening Mass will lead the
Worship and Praise. It is an opportunity to involve people in ministry both
in this African Community and in people’s own parishes as Dublin develops
into a multicultural and multiethnic society.
New
beginnings bring hope, these are our new beginnings and a development of the
Mission of St. Peter’s, Phibsoborough.

Moore, CM.
