At the dawning of the day Astonished and overcome with admiration at all the events in Northern politics in recent weeks, an experienced journalist admits that he cannot find words to express his astonishment. “Is this really happening?... Unbelievable! Unimaginable! Inexplicable! The new dawn of power sharing continues to defy the limits of credulity.
Astonished and overcome… Mary of Magdala and John the Beloved, traumatised at the foot of the cross, thrilled at the empty tomb, the limits of credulity crumbling. Peter, too, last to arrive, lingering over his lonely denials, crosses the tomb’s troubling threshold.
Standing somewhere between our own Calvary cross and Easter expectancy, the new day dawns slowly to dare and draw us too to be astonished, and to answer once more our Church’s invitation to cross the threshold of crumbling incredulity.
“Let us renew the promises we made in baptism… Do you believe in Jesus Christ… born of the Virgin Mary… crucified, died… buried… risen from the dead…?”
