Guidebook to Eternity

When browsing  through the bookstores in the city I noticed that the fastest growing area of interest is the Travel Section.   Guide books are now available for almost every country and region giving an outline of what to see and situation to avoid.

To-day’s Gospel reading is such a guide book for our dual destinations:  Easter and Eternity.  The three recommendations of the Gospel are:  faithful worship of God, openness to the Spirit of God and perseverance in troubled times.  Each calling for discernment in my relationship with God and supported through prayer, through owning the Word of God and through developing a generous heart.  Equally the Gospel is asking us to avoid being self centred and self serving through situations of power, wealth or false worship.

On Ash Wednesday we publicly accepted the Blessed Ashes as that moment of transition from where I am to where God is calling me to be.  As one filled with the Spirit can I allow each day of this Lenten Season to be an incremented step towards Easter Day and ultimately to Eternity?
