Me and My Shadow

A few short years ago as I listened to a rock and roll song from the 60's on my walkman (apologies to the MP3 generation !) the music called me to imagine I was dancing to the rhythms of my teen years.  Alas, my slow-moving shadow mischievously brought me to my senses !

If you or I want to know who we really are we have to take seriously the shadow sides of our lives, shadows from the present and the past.

When you embrace the shadow you will come to know the truth about yourself.  You will receive new sight.

Jesus puts the man born blind further into the world of darkness and shadows.  He makes a paste of spittle and clay - a reminder that we are indeed vessels of clay.  This clay-self is washed in the pool of Siloam, a place of new life.

Lord, grant me that gift of sight, even though it may mean having a closer look at the shadows which remind me of who, and what I am.
