Pastoral Care
Please inform us of anyone who needs the prayers
and support of the parish whether they are aged, sick, hospitalised or
grieving. The Presbytery may be called at any time for the Sacrament of
the Sick. Also, we will gladly bring the Eucharist to those unable to
attend Mass due to sickness or infirmity.
Moment to Ponder
It is not enough
to visit the poor and to provide for their needs: one’s heart must be
totally purged of all self-interest… we must continually have before our
eyes our model, the exemplary life of Jesus Christ. We are called to
imitate this life, not only as Christians, but as persons chosen by God
to serve Him in the person of His poor.
St.
Louise de Marillac
Prayer
As I move through
my day, Lord, never let the pressures of work excuse me from taking the
time to say those comforting or encouraging words that ease the pain of
someone who is suffering.
Conference Room Facilities
For

Peter’s Presbytery has two conference rooms to suit your every need. To

Go and tell what you see and hear…
Thomas must be the patron saint of the ‘scientific method.’ The words,
“Unless I can see the holes that the nails made…and put my hand into his
side…” could be the creed of the scientific method which insists on
seeing the evidence.
So, what did Thomas see? Early in Jesus’ ministry John the Baptist sent
two of his followers to ask Jesus, “Are you the one who is to come,
or are we to expect someone else?” Jesus replied, “Go back and tell
John what you see and hear; the blind see again and the lame walk,
lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life and
the good news is proclaimed to the poor; and blessed is he who takes no
offence at me.” (Mt 11 & Lk 7)
It is Jesus who enables this and his words, “Peace be with you…receive
the Holy Spirit,” are critical. Thomas returned to the rest of the
disciples after Jesus had left the first time and found a completely
changed group of people. Jesus had breathed on them and all that was
suffocating them had lifted. Joy overcomes their fear; they are filled
with it.
All of this is realised by Jesus who is risen from the dead and it is a
mercy, the reconciliation of everything in him, the undoing of
everything that would bind us and keep us locked in whatever upper rooms
we entomb ourselves.

“They think I'm a saint... When I'm dead,
they'll come and touch holy pictures and rosaries to me,
and all the while I'll be getting broiled on a grill in purgatory.
At least promise me you'll pray a lot for the repose of my soul.“

Creideamh 09
Festival of Faith 4th - 19th July
Creideamh 09
is a response to the Church’s call for a ‘New Evangelisation’. In 2002
the Cardinals of Paris, Vienna, Brussels and Lisbon initiated a series
of city wide Faith Festivals in their cities. These events drew
thousands, brought encouragement to many and have helped revitalize the
Church. Creideamh 09 owes much of its inspiration to these.
A
number of parishes across Galway will host this festival that will draw
Christians, young and old from around Ireland & abroad. To find out how
to get involved contact Creideamh 09, Town Park House, Tuam Road,
Galway. Or check out their website at:
www.creideamh.org.
Volunteers Needed
Barnardos
continues to seek volunteers for their reading programme. The programme
is based in school and pairs children with reading difficulties with
adults aged 55 yrs and older. The volunteers work with the children over
the school year improving their reading skills by listening to, reading
with and encouraging the child. Volunteers do not need special
qualifications, just a commitment to children, a passion for reading and
an understanding of its importance. We are seeking people who can commit
to working with a child twice a week over the school year. We provide
volunteers with full support, supervision and training. Further
information from Sinead Hardiman at 01- 453 0355.
Eucharistic Congress 2012
Benedict XVI
announced that Dublin will host the next
International Eucharistic Congress, which will
be held in 2012. The Pope announced this when
he gave a homily by satellite during the
closing Mass of the 49th International Eucharistic Congress in Quebec. "As this significant event in the life of the Church draws to a conclusion I invite you all to join me in praying for the success of the next International Eucharistic Congress, which will take place in 2012 in the city of Dublin," the Holy Father said. He took the opportunity "to greet warmly the people of Ireland, as they prepare to host this ecclesial gathering." "I am confident that they, together with all the participants at the next congress, will find it a source of lasting spiritual renewal," he said. Attending the Congress in Quebec, Cardinal Sean Brady, archbishop of Armagh, and
Archbishop Diarmuid Martin of Dublin, welcomed
the news. They said in a statement: "On behalf
of the Catholic faithful of Ireland, we are
honoured and humbled that the Holy Father,
Pope Benedict XVI, has chosen Dublin to host
the 50th International Eucharistic Congress in
2012. "While the theme for the next congress
has yet to be finalized, we are deeply conscious that 2012 also marks the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council. "The hosting of the congress in Dublin will be an international event. The
celebration will attract thousands of
pilgrims and will enable Catholics at home and
abroad to meet, pray together and discuss
issues of faith." This is the second time that Dublin
will host the congress; the Irish hosted the
31st congress in 1932. "We live in different
times now," the prelates said in their statement,
"and it is our hope that the 2012 congress will be an
opportunity for the Catholic Church in
Ireland to both reflect on the centrality of the
Eucharist at the heart of our increasingly diverse
community, and, to give renewed impetus to the
living of faith."
